Static electricity is thought to have sparked a fire at the Ray Nixon Power Plant Wednesday morning.

All employees were evacuated, and the fire was contained in a coal handling area. The blaze was in a dust collector and a fire suppression system put it out. Investigators say it was accidental and not human-caused.

Power was not interrupted, and the main electric generating facility wasn’t damaged. Utility rates will not bee affected.
