Photos: A reported tornado in the Pike National Forest shuts down the Devil’s Head recreational area

Pike National Forest, CO – The Devil’s Head fire tower area of Pike National Forest is closed until further notice as officials work to assess the damage caused by a tornado Tuesday afternoon.

Six acres of trees were blown down.

The National Weather Service will determine how severe the storm was in the coming days.

Pike Hotshots are working to remove downed trees before the area can reopen.

The closure affects the Devil’s Head tower, campground, trail head and picnic ground. The gate to the turnoff is locked.
