COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Five years after a Colorado Springs tow truck driver was dragged to his death, a woman serving a 20-year sentence for causing the ordeal is on the verge of learning whether her convictions will stand.

The Gazette reports, an appeal filed by attorneys for Detra Farries is close to being decided. A three-judge panel will determine if Farries should receive a new trial or a lower sentence in the 2011 death of Allen Rose.

He was preparing to tow Farries’ suburban when Farries got in and drove away. Rose became ensnared in the tow cable.

Farries’ public defenders said she should have been tried outside of El Paso County because of extensive media coverage.
