WELL, WELL, WELL…..
Finally, the College Football season is here…Nothing worse than the wait for the season to kickoff. However it’s been an important time for Troy Calhoun and his Air Force Football team. When you lose 32 seniors off last year’s 10-3 team, every day is invaluable. I remember walking around practice in August of last year saying, “Yup, know him. Yup, remember him.” This year, I had to check to make sure I was at the right place. So many young guys, eager to get on the field. Now, the Falcons do have experience coming back in some areas. Rb Tim Mcvey, and Z wide receivers Ron Cleveland and Ty Williams, plus some veterans up from in Alex Norton and JC Rast. Then you have a guy like QB Arion Worthman, who seems as if he has been around for awhile, but has only played in 7 games. But he will be the starter Saturday vs VMI. Behind him, a healthy Nate Romine. On defense, even though the Falcons are returning just one starter in LB Grant Ross, LB Jack Flohr, CB Marquise Griffin, and D-lineman Santo Coppola and Cody Morehead all played a season ago. Saturday against VMI, both offense and defense get a chance to mesh, and begin to develop their strengths and identify their weaknesses. This team will have to come together quickly, because after this week the heavy hitters come knocking…Michigan….San Diego State…Navy. There is a lot of young talent in Blue and Silver….Safety Kyle Floyd, Safety Garret Kauppila, Nose Guard Mosese Fifita, who by the way, checks in at 320 pounds, Wr’s Marcus Bennet and Geraud Sanders, along with Tailback Malik Miller-all names I think you will be hearing pretty quick. Some say they want talent over experience any day of the week, others disagree. But what they all want is wins. How quickly they come, we shall all find out.
Saturday Air Force hosts VMI at noon on 740 KVOR. Our pregame show begins at 10. If you’re coming to the game, grab that radio.
