In October of 2017, Malik Murphy stabbed his two young siblings to death while they slept in their beds.
The 21-year-old appeared in a Colorado Springs courtroom Thursday, where it was decided he will undergo a new mental health evaluation in July.
Last March a doctor determined Murphy is sane, and now the defense is requesting a second opinion.
Authorities say Murphy planned to kill his entire family and bury them in the back yard.
He killed 5-year-old Sophie and 7-year-old Noah, then stabbed is father in the neck. His father was able to restrain his son until police arrived.
A review hearing on August 5th will determine if his case can proceed to trial.
