SEIZE THE MOMENT

Friday Night the Air Force football team rolls into Boise to face the Boise State Broncos. The Falcons are confident, hungry and intent on parlaying their win over Colorado into a 2 game winning streak and making a statement that they are a threat for the Conference title.  Boise State? Confident, hungry and intent on running their winning streak to 4 and getting a leg up in the Mountain West race.

Saturdays win in Boulder was for the Falcons clear evidence this could be a special season. They dominated most of the game. Had they not turned it over 3 times Air Force wins by at least 2 scores. So now, how do you use that momentum against a conference foe and the division favorite? In my mind it’s hard to find a weakness with the Falcons in any area. I know, it’s just 2 games, but there’s experience everywhere, and a resolve that’s developing to make this year a season to remember. The Broncos are crazy good on defense, and have a young quarterback who is playing above his years. You don’t get a lot of these types of games in September. The opportunity for the Falcons is enormous. Win Friday night and you’re 3-0 and probably getting votes in the Top 25, and are clearly a threat in the Mountain Division. So how do the Falcons win? 1) Keep the creative play-calling we saw against Colorado. I thought Mike Thiessen called his best game as Offensive Coordinator last week. The Falcons played to their strength-speed on the edge with Kadin Remsberg, strength inside with the Fullbacks, and deadly passing from Donald Hammond to Geraud Sanders and another speedster Ben Waters.  2) The Falcons defense needs to make life miserable for Broncos Freshman Quarterback Hank Bachmeier. Blitz him a lot, force him to throw early. And the Air Force secondary needs to clamp down, like last week, on a talented group of Bronco Wide Receivers. Don’t let a 10 yard gain turn into a 50 yard play. For Air Force the message is simple: Seize The Moment
