BOUNCE BACK WEEK

After being away for almost a month, the Air Force Football team finds itself home for a Friday night matchup against San Jose State. And if you thought this game was just going to be a speed bump for the Falcons, guess again. The Spartans went into Fayetteville and stunned Arkansas (yes SEC Arkansas) 31-24 Saturday. San Jose State has the kind of offense that could give Air Force trouble. They have a senior quarterback in Josh Love, and a bevy of good receivers. It might remind you of the team the Falcons lost to last Friday, Boise State. The Spartans never trailed against Arkansas, and after the Razorbacks tied it with a bit more than 2 minutes to play Love led them on a 5 play 75 yard scoring drive to take the lead. Then the San Jose State defense stepped in with their 5th interception of the game to seal it. No doubt, they have the Falcons attention.

I thought Air Force played a pretty good game against Boise State. The contest really came down to 3 plays, a 4th and 1 conversion the Falcons failed to get. A 3rd and 11 conversion the Broncos did get which eventually resulted in a touchdown, and a 4th and 10 try the Broncos turned into a 1st down, and soon thereafter a touchdown. Friday night against the Spartans I would love to see the Falcons use more of their short passing game. They have made a living over the years lulling people to sleep with the option then going up top for a big play. Maybe dinking and dunking a bit keeps the Spartans defense off balance. Short passes helped the Falcons score their only touchdown of the second half against Boise State. Of course we’ll see plenty of option with Donald Hammond, Taven Birdow and Kadin Remsberg.

Friday night will be game 4. 3-1 after 4 games is a good way to start the season, with all your goals out there if you are Air Force. Another conference loss, and now you’re 2-2, the shine of the C-U win is no more, and you probably don’t have a shot at the Mountain Division regular season title. Friday is a big game, and not because it’s the next game.
