The Pentagon is considering using Peterson Air Force Base east of Colorado Springs as a holding site to house unoccupied migrant children. Pentagon officials toured Peterson Wednesday after a request came from the Department of Health and Human Services asking for assistance. The agency would maintain custody of the children and would continue to bear responsibility for them. The southern border of the United States has seen a large increase of children, minus their parents, trying to come into the United States. Officials say a final decision on using Peterson will be made very soon.
