BENT COUNTY – Fire crews are still battling what’s turned into a very large grass fire in southeastern Colorado. the fire was reported at about 10:30 p.m. Monday night just east of Las Animas. Fire officials say the flames started near Highway 50 and Mile Marker 408 and the blaze quickly raced to the southwest.

Reportedly, one home was in danger, but firefighters were able to protect the structure. The acreage burned is currently unknown Tuesday morning and while snow showers are expected in the area, crews are hoping the weather will cooperate enough to get a drone up to map out the size of the fire.
