A man died Thursday afternoon after being shot by police that morning on Garden of the Gods road west of I-25. Police located a stolen car in a hotel parking lot off Garden of the Gods. A man in the car took off but high centered the vehicle. He got out with a shotgun pointed under his chin. The man began walking toward a person pumping gas at a nearby gas station. Police ordered him to drop the weapon but he wouldn’t obey. Police deployed a taser but it had no effect. As he continued to approach the gas customer an officer fired hitting the suspect. He was rushed to a hospital but died Thursday afternoon. No bystanders or police were injured. The officer is on routine administrative leave. The deceased has not been identified.
