1 man is dead after an officer involved shooting Sunday afternoon in the Springs. A Colorado Springs police officer was working extra security at Walmart on east Platte near Chelton when he saw a man shoplifting. The suspect ran from the store. He hid behind a car and was found by the officer. He was given several verbal commands, then the officer used a taser on the subject. The man pulled a gun and shot once. The officer returned fire. The man was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The officer is on routine administrative leave. The El Paso County Sheriff’s office will handle the investigation.
