Residents with a 719 or 970 area code must now dial the area code to make a local phone call. The Federal Communications Commission is implementing a new national suicide prevention hotline number, 988. 82 area codes around the country, including 719 and 970 have local numbers that begin with 988. The change was ordered so people don’t accidently call the hotline. Most cell phones automatically add the area code. but if you are dialing manually, you’ll have to add the area code for the call to go through.
