The U.S. Air Force Academy is breaking ground today on a new Visitor’s Center, which is scheduled to open in two years. The ceremony starts at 9 a.m., outside the Academy’s North Gate. The Visitor Center and True North Commons Development will cover 57 acres of USAFA property. It will include a public hotel, conference center, office space and restaurant area. The Center is designated as an official Colorado Welcome Center – aimed at showing cadet life and what it’s like to attend the Air Force Academy. It’s also the final piece of the City of Champions project. Planned speakers for today include the USAFA Superintendent Lieutenant General Richard Clark; Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera; Springs Mayor John Suthers and other Air Force officials.
