FBI Part of Review of Alleged School Threats

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now part of a sprawling review of threats against multiple Colorado schools yesterday. Many are considered hoaxes. Campuses in Boulder, Canon City, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, Durango and Pueblo West all reported threats. Law enforcement across the state quickly responded. For most of these calls, the situations were quickly resolved, and no injuries were reported. Boulder Police Chief Maris Harlold says a bomb and shooting threat was made against Boulder High School. Officers swept the school without finding any victims. She says that the call reporting the alleged shooting was very convincing. Canon City High School received a bomb threat, including a threat of a gunman heading to campus. Police searched the area, and did not find any active shooter. Pueblo District 70 says they received a threat about a weapon on a campus. School officials and county deputies say the threat was unfounded. There’s been no word from officials if any of these threats were connected. All of those threats happened within a short window — starting around 9 a.m. yesterday. In a statement, FBI agents said that they would be working closely with local law enforcement to find out more about these claims — and about possible federal prosecution. The FBI says that investigation into potentially fake or hoax threats “drains law enforcement resources and diverts officers from responding to an actual crisis.”
