Trial of Letecia Stauch Slated to Start Today

Letecia Stauch

The trial of Letecia Stauch is set to begin today. She’s the El Paso County woman accused of killing her young stepson, Gannon. Prosecutors believe that she killed the 11-year-old boy in 2020, before his remains were discovered in Florida. Jurors are slated to hear opening arguments later today, and the trial could last for up to six weeks. The trial has been delayed multiple times, due in part to the pandemic — and Stauch’s claims about her sanity. Stauch is pleading not guilty by reason of insanity. Stauch asked to represent herself on the insanity plea, which led to those evaluations. She’s undergone a number of evaluations — some of which found her sane. Her defense team claims a recent review conducted by their expert did not find her sane. Jury selection in this case began two weeks ago.
