Barry Morphew, the Chaffee County man who was accused of killing his missing wife Suzanne, has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the prosecution in the case. Morphew claims his civil rights were violated. His attorney claims that Morphew suffered the “indignity of being wrongfully arrested, jailed and prosecuted for a crime he did not commit.” Morphew’s wife Suzanne disappeared around Mother’s Day of 2020, and has not been seen since. She is believed to be dead. After a long investigation — charges were brought against Morphew. The case went to court, where it was eventually dismissed — without prejudice — meaning it could be reopened at a later time. Morphew is seeking $15 million in damages, as well as court fees. The suit lists more than 30 defendants, including Chaffee County, its Sheriff’s Office, the 11th Judicial District Attorney’s Office and individual agents of the FBI and CBI.
