Statewide crackdown on distracted driving this Friday

Expect more law enforcement officers this Friday as a part of a statewide crackdown. Authorities are calling the operation “surge day.” The state patrol says the goal is to stop distracted driving across the state. Troopers are expected to be out in full force on roadways, including I-25, I-70, and highways 34 and 40, to name a few. Officers will be focused on lane violations, speeding, and reckless driving behaviors. Officials say the number of fatal and injury crashes throughout the state has significantly increased over the past few years. In 2022, the state lost 745 lives in traffic fatalities.
