COLORADO SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL TUESDAY APPROVED PUTTING A QUESTION ON THE BALLOT IN NOVEMBER, ASKING RESIDENTS TO GIVE TABOR REFUNDS BACK TO THE CITY FOR A NEW POLICE TRAINING ACADEMY. SPRINGS MAYOR YEMI MOBOLADE AND SPRINGS POLICE CHIEF ADRIAN VASQUEZ SAYS THE CITY HAS OUTGROWN THE CURRENT TRAINING ACADEMY. MOBOLADE SAYS, IF APPROVED BY VOTERS THIS WILL RAISE 5 MILLION DOLLARS TOWARD THE PROJECT. ON AVERAGE THAT TABOR REFUND IS ABOUT 21 DOLLARS PER PERSON AND COMES IN THE FORM OF A CREDIT ON UTILITY BILLS. ESTIMATES FOR THE NEW FACILITY RUN BETWEEN 30 AND 40 MILLION DOLLARS. HOW THE CITY WOULD RAISE ALL THE MONEY FOR A NEW FACILITY IS NOT KNOWN.
