The Road Gets Tougher
5 games left in the regular season for the Air Force Football Team. They have opened with 7 straight wins to start the season as they head to Fort Collins for a 5pm kickoff against the Rams Saturday. I won’t say the Falcons have been perfect through 7. I would say they are unbeaten through 7. But starting with CSU things get tougher. For one, it’s a rivalry game, and if you are the Rams, who have lost 14 of the last 16 to the Falcons, you would love nothing more than hanging them with their first loss. Air Force is wary of the Rams dynamic passing attack that can stretch a defense. The Air Force Defense has been in the top 5 all season long and has played a lot of passing teams this year. The problem for Colorado State is slowing down the Falcons offense. Navy did it last week, and Sam Houston State played well early. But the Falcons bring a lot of offense into the game against a CSU Defense that has been inconsistent. And if you are Air Force, as much as you don’t want it to, the thought of an unbeaten season creeps into your mind. Which is why as long as I have known Troy Calhoun his simple message is go 1-0 each week. Can’t do anything about Army next week or UNLV in 3 weeks. Just deal with what’s in front of you. As much as the game is played on the field, it’s also played between your ears, especially with so much at stake. The Falcons have two games Saturday-the one on the field, and the one in their minds.
