Crews respond to a fire sparked by a blowtorch

Fire crews say two people were able to escape their home Monday morning after one of them used a blow torch on the pipes in their celler sparking a fire. Crews were called to a fire at Chestnut and Kiowa west of I-25 and Bijou. Firefighters say the blaze had spread to other materials in the home and got in between a wall. No injuries are reported. Officials are asking residents to not attempt to heat pipes with a blowtorch, or a similar device. They say when temperatures get cold it’s a good idea to open cabinets to make sure heat from your home can get to the pipes.
