CSFD says a fire at an apartment in southwest Colorado Springs was caused by a lithium-ion battery in a scooter

The Colorado Springs Fire Department released the cause of a fire Thursday at “The Lookout at Broadmoor Apartments” near South 8th Street and Cheyenne Boulevard. Officials say a lithium-ion battery in an electric scooter sparked the blaze. Crews were able to quickly contain the fire to the balcony and within minutes, the fire was under control. CSFD warns that lithium-ion batteries store large amounts of energy and if damaged they can overheat, catch fire, and, in some cases explode. No injuries were reported.
