A judge rules a case involving a man accused of hitting a parole officer with his car will proceed to trial

A judge has determined a case involving a man who struck a parole officer with his car has enough evidence to proceed to trial. Justin Kula is charged with manslaughter in the death of Officer Christine Guerin Sandoval last September. Guerin Sandoval was serving a warrant near the Bijou Street exit off I-25 she was stuck by Kula’s vehicle. Here death was ruled a homicide caused by blunt force trauma. A detective who interviewed Kula after his arrest testified in court Monday. The detective said Kula Told him he thought he was being robbed when Officer Guerin Sandoval approached him and pointed a gun at him. The detective also testified that after reviewing surveillance video and hearing from witnesses he did not find evidence that Guerin Sandoval identified herself as she approached Kula. kula is currently held in the El Paso County Jail on a 250-thousand-dollar bond and is expected back in court for an arraignment hearing on February 23rd.
