A MEASURE SPONSORED BY EL PASO COUNTY REPRESENTATIVE REGINA ENGLISH, IF PASSED, WOULD FORCE PET OWNERS TO REGISTER THEIR PET WITH THE STATE OF COLORADO AND PAY AN ANNUAL FEE. THE PROPOSAL WOULD CREATE DESIGNATED CAREGIVERS IF THE OWNER CAN’T TAKE CARE OF THEIR PET. AN ANNUAL FEE OF 8.50 CENTS WOULD BE CHARGED TO THE OWNER. IT WOULD JUMP TO 16 DOLLARS A YEAR IF THE PET WERE NOT SPAYED OR NEUTERED, AND WOULD RISE TO 25 DOLLARS ANNUALLY IF NO DESIGNATED CAREGIVERS IS ESTABLISHED. THE COLORADO HOUSE WILL DISCUSS THE PROPOSAL LATER THIS MONTH.
