Letecia Stauch Found Guilty, Appeal Possible

Letecia Stauch has been found guilty of killing her 11-year-old stepson Gannon — on all charges. The El Paso County woman was sentenced to life in prison. After eight hours of deliberation, the jury returned their verdict. Stauch was accused of killing Gannon, after he was listed as missing in January of 2020. His remains were later discovered in Florida. Stauch was arrested later that year. Yesterday, she was sentenced to life in prison for first-degree murder. The judge also sentenced her to a second life sentence for murder of a child under the age of 12 — plus another 12 years for tampering with a body — and several more months for tampering with evidence. Stauch had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, a major focus of testimony at trial. There were questions about her mental competence — and she underwent a number of evaluations. The judge in the case condemned her use of that plea in court during sentencing. Stauch’s defense attorney says that an appeal in the case is possible — however, his office will likely not be involved with Stauch going forward.
