THE EL PASO COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT SAYS THE FIRST CASE OF WEST NILE VIRUS IN THE COUNTY HAS BEEN REPORTED. THEY SAY A RESIDENT HAS TESTED POSTIVE FOR WEST NILE. ITS TRANSMITTED BY MOSQUITOS THAT BECOME INFECTED WHEN THEY FEED ON INFECTED BIRDS OR OTHER MOSQUITOS. THE COUNTY SAYS MOST PEOPLE THAT GET WEST NILE DON’T HAVE SYMPTOMS. 1 IN 5 PEOPLE DO SHOW FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS 2 TO 14 DAYS AFTER EXPOSURE. HEALTH OFFICIALS SAY PEOPLE OVER THE AGE OF 60 ARE AT GREATER RISK FOR SERIOUS ILLNESS.
