El Paso County pays 3 million dollar settlement after inmate death in 2021

El Paso County and the Sheriff’s Office will pay a 3 million dollar settlement to the estate of a man who died while in jail nearly 2 years ago. William Johnson was found unresponsive in his cell during a routine welfare check at the El Paso County Jail on September 27, 2021. Officials say Williams died from a seizure disorder associated with epilepsy, polypharmacy, and covid-19. The sheriff’s office has extended their condolences to Johnson’s friends and family.
