New details released on August officer-involved shooting

The Colorado Springs Police Department has released new details on the August 17th officer-involved shooting that killed Benjamin Annaboli. The incident started when U.S. Marshals and parole officers spotted Annaboli in the parking lot of a hotel on Aeroplaza Drive. When they learned he was a violent offender wanted on multiple outstanding felony warrants, they called for help from CSPD’s tactical enforcement unit. Investigators say Annaboli tried to flee on foot toward the hotel with a gun in each hand. According to CSPD, he ignored multiple commands. In addition, CSPD says officers released a K-9 in an attempt to apprehend him.  Annaboli tried to fight the K-9 off. In a briefing video, CSPD deputy chief Mary Roseoff says Annaboli then turned toward officers holding a gun. She says two CSPD officers then fired shots at the suspect, striking him and he fell to the ground. Life-saving measures were attempted. Annaboli was transported to a hospital, where he died later that day. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation.
