Colorado Springs Police are alerting the community about two recent phone and email scams. According to CSPD, the scammers pretend to be the police department or Colorado Springs Utilities. In the first scam, victims are told they have warrants and need to pay money in order to clear them. In the other case, the scammer claims to be a utility worker and tells the victims they are 3 months behind on their bill and need to pay immediately or their electricity will be shut off. Police say the scammers ask for non-standard payments, including Bitcoin or gift cards. The Colorado Springs Police Department says they will never ask someone to pay for a warrant, and if you’re ever unsure whether a call or email is a scam, call the police department.
