The trial of two Aurora police officers charged in connection with the death of Elijah McClain is underway. Randy Roedema and Jason Rosenblatt are charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent reckless homicide, and assault. Both men have pleaded not guilty. In August 2019, officers received reports of a suspicious person and approached McClain. The situation escalated and McClain was allegedly placed in a chokehold and injected with the sedative ketamine. McClain died several days later. Autopsy reports indicate McClain’s death was caused by complications from ketamine and that the stress from being restrained may have played a role in his death as well. A 3rd police officer and two paramedics will be tried in connection to McClain’s death at a later date.
