TUESDAY COLORADO SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL, BY A 5-4 VOTE, REJECTED A PROPOSAL FROM CITY LEADERS TO BRING AMBULANCE SERVICE IN HOUSE, CONTROLLED BY THE COLORADO SPRINGS FIRE DEPARTMENT. A-M-R HAS HAD THE CONTRACT. THAT COMPANY HAS HAD NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT RESPONSE TIMES. ROYAL WAS FRUSTRATED WITH THE DECISION
THOSE OPPOSING THE MEASURE ON CITY COUNCIL SAID THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OVERESTIMATED HOW MUCH MONEY IT WOULD GET FROM INSURANCE COMPANIES. THEY ALSO CITED WHAT THEY SAW WAS A LACK OF START UP FUNDS. THE CHANGE WOULD HAVE LISTED AMBULANCE SERVICE AS AN ENTERPRISE, WHICH MEANT NO TAX DOLLARS COULD BE USED FOR ANY SHORTAGE.
