Where is the Air Force Offense?

I’m still trying to figure out how Running Back Tim Mcvey  for Air Force did not have a single carry through 3 quarters in Saturdays loss to San Diego State. In the 4th quarter he finally got the ball 7 times and scored a touchdown. I get that Mcvey is not Marshall Faulk, but he is the Falcons most explosive running back. He is almost averaging a touchdown a game, and he’s played in 30 of them, and he is averaging over 7 yards a carry in his CAREER. So how does Air Force not get him the football? To be fair, Parker Wilson was doing a great job running the ball from his fullback position and finished with a career high 98 yards rushing. And yes, when Arion Worthman ran option, there were times when the San Diego State defense would not allow him to pitch it. The sample size is small, just 3 games, but the vaunted Air Force offense is struggling. They completed two passes last week, one was a two point conversion that was overthrown, and the second was by a wide receiver. And against Michigan they completed just one pass. This offense needs to figure things out. QB Arion Worthman has carried the ball 52 TIMES in 2 games. I bet Dee Dowis didn’t carry it 52 times in back to back games in his career. And teams have bottled him up. So does that mean calling less option and more pre-determined handoffs to McVey? Does it mean getting Ron Cleveland and Ty Williams more involved? Does it mean throwing more on first down and from the shotgun? Troy Calhoun admitted Saturday that Air Force is a better team when Mcvey is involved. So get him involved. Early. And Often.

Saturday Air Force is at New Mexico. We’re on the air at 3 Saturday afternoon, and the kickoff is set for 5 on Colorado’s 740 KVOR.
