2 games is a small body of work, but you get the sense that Air Force has a lot of work to do on offense. The unit has looked okay, not great, not bad, in 2 games this season. But there’s this feeling that something is missing. Maybe it’s because we have been spoiled the last several years, first with WR Jalen Robinette, and most recently with RB Tim Mcveigh. And to be fair, it does take time for a teams personality to take shape. However there are fans (and media) wondering who the next big time playmaker will be. At one time it looked to be QB Arion Worthman, and it still could be. But the Falcons replaced him with Isaiah Sanders against Florida Atlantic. It was a curious move, one seemingly designed to give the offense a spark. I’m not sure it did. Head Coach Troy Calhoun talked after the Florida Atlantic loss about how the offense needs to be more consistent. True, you can’t blame all that on either quarterback. And, it sounds like both signal callers will play against Utah State. Nobody has truly emerged as a go-to running back yet. The Falcons took a long time during last weeks bye to look at Joey Saucier, who was injured early against FAU, Nolan Eriksen, and Kadin Remsberg, who is expected to start Saturday at Utah State. I know the Falcons want, and expect more out of Worthman, and he has shown some of that late in his sophomore year, and very early in his jr campaign. But whatever the position, and whomever the player, someone needs to emerge as a legitimate, and consistent threat when they get the football. It’s still early, but conference play is here, and there are no more byes. Air Force needs to find that player quick.
Our coverage of Air Force and Utah State begins Saturday night at 6. The kickoff is at 815, with Jim Arthur and Jesse Kurtz, on 740 KVOR.
