GOLDEN – An investigation is underway after a semi-hauling a trailer full of lemons burst into flames on I-70 near Highway 6, outside of Golden Wednesday. After the trailer caught on fire, lemons spilled onto the eastbound lanes of the highway.
While firefighters battled the flames, both eastbound and westbound I-70 had to be closed. Once the fire was out, a front-end loader had to be brought in to start cleaning up the lemons scattered everywhere. While the driver is more than likely feeling sour about the loss of his load, he did walk away from the fire without any injuries. You may still see a right lane closure Thursday while crews continue their clean-up on the right shoulder
